MESSAGES
Digambar Kamat
Chief Minister of Goa

M
E S S A G E
It
gives me a great pleasure to know that the Indo German Friendship
Society, Goa (IGSG) is organising the 2nd German Cultural
Week from December 9th to 13th, 2009.
It
may be recalled that the event celebrated last year was unique and very
successful and had wide publicity in Goa.
This
initiative of the IGSG has been a strengthening pilar in renewing and
cementing the cultural ties between Goa and Germany and fostering the
contribution to boost the economic relations.
I
heartedly congratulate the promoters of this great event, especially
Prof. Dr. Aurobindo Xavier, president of the Indo German Friendship
Society, Goa, and wish this event a grand success.

GRUSSBOTSCHAFT
2009
ist für Deutschland ein wichtiges Gedenkjahr:
Vor
60 Jahren
wurde die Bundesrepublik gegründet, vor 20 Jahren
fiel
erfreulich. Der Indo-German Friendship Society in Goa gebührt
herzlicher Dank für Ihr Engagement. Ich wünsche der Deutschen
Kulturwoche in Goa Erfolg, allen Beteiligten viel Vergnügen und gutes
Gelingen!

MESSAGE
(Translation
from the original in German)
2009
is an important milestone for Germany. 60 years ago, Germany was founded
and 20 years ago the Berlin Wall fell. The Fall of the Berlin Wall had
the consequence of the Reunification of both German states.
At
the same time, this led to the end of the East West Confrontation. Since
then the World has changed very reapidly. Both Germans and Indians have
have eqally witnessed this change.
I
am glad to know that the Fall of the Berlin Wall is a leading theme of
this year's German Cultural Week in Goa. But politics and history are
not the only part of the programme: there are also presentations and
conferences. And last but not least there will be a get together,
because a beerfest is a must in a Cultural Week!
With
its beaches, its nature and its rich Christian heritage, Goa is indeed a
bridge between India and Europe. This attracts tourists, including many
Germans. My family and myself are simply enthusiastic about Goa and
Goans.
It
is good to see that the German Cultural Week in Goa has become a
tradition. The Indo-German Friendship Society, Goa deserves to be
thanked for their efforts. I wish success to the German Cultural Week in
Goa and I am sure everybody will enjoy it.
